Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia by Teddy Sagi together with partners from the casino, software engineering and multimedia industries.
They are based in Douglas, Isle of Man and currently has over 5 000 employees across 14 countries. The majority of employees work in the research and development of current and future games technologies.
Playtech’s first casino product launched in 2001, and has since grown to become the world’s leading designer, developer and licensor of web and mobile application software.
In March 2006 Playtech was successfully listed on the London Stock Exchange and officially became a public company. Playtech is also a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
During the following years Playtech grew further by penetrating regulated markets including Estonia, Italy, Serbia and Spain.
They also kept adding more products to their portfolio including a Live Casino, Bingo network, iPoker network, Videobet and Mobile Casinos.
Playtech's bingo platform is Virtue Fusion which was acquired in 2010 and has since been enhanced by the purchase of ECM Systems in 2016.
In May 2016 Playtech acquired the Swedish online game developer Quickspin and in July 2016 acquired rival operator Best Gaming Technology (BGT).
In January 2017 Playtech branched out into Romania and announced a new partnership with
Warner Bros for the development of slots based on DC Comic feature films.
